We are proud to share that Dylan Simpson, one of our talented apprentices at Jenks & Cattell Engineering Ltd, has been nominated for In-Comm Training’s prestigious "Learner of the Year" award.

Dylan joined us in 2022 as a Toolmaking Apprentice through In-Comm Training and has shown consistent development, dedication, and a real passion for engineering. His nomination reflects not only his commitment but also our strong track record in supporting and progressing toolmaking apprentices.

Through a blend of college education and hands-on experience, Dylan has built solid skills in CNC machining, milling, drilling, and hand-fitting. Applying this knowledge in a real manufacturing setting has helped him develop both technical ability and critical problem-solving skills.

🛠 The Apprentice Experience

Dylan shares:

"Attending both college and work has really benefited me. I’ve learned to troubleshoot independently and understand the reasons behind engineering challenges."

With ambitions to move into tool design and project management, Dylan continues to grow under the mentorship of experienced colleagues. Among them is Adrian Muston, a seasoned press tooling expert recently appointed as our Training and Development Manager, further strengthening the support we offer apprentices.

💡 Dylan’s Advice to Future Apprentices

“Ask the right questions, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they’re the best way to grow.”

As part of the next steps, Dylan will attend a judging day on 5th June, ahead of the black-tie final event on 11th July, where the winner will be revealed from among ten exceptional finalists.
